Biblical Readings

The one element that almost every reading includes is a passage from the bible. Ephesians 2

4
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
5
made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved.

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
7
in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
8
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--
9
not by works, so that no one can boast.
10
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 3

14
For this reason I kneel before the Father,
15
from whom his whole family[1] in heaven and on earth derives its name.
16
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,
17
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,
18
may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,
19
and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 4

1
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.
2
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
3
Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
4
There is one body and one Spirit-- just as you were called to one hope when you were called--
5
one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
6
one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
 

25    Therefore, having laid aside falsehood, each one of  you speak the truth
          with his neighbor
,
28 for we are members of one another.
26     Be angry and do not sin;29 do not let the sun go down on the cause of
        your anger.30
27
    Do not give the devil an opportunity.
28
    The one who steals must steal no longer; rather he must labor, doing good
        with his own hands, so that he may share with the one who has need.
29
    You must let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but only
        what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need,31 that it may give
        grace to those who hear.
30
    And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the
       day of redemption.
31
    You must put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and
        evil, slanderous talk.
32
     But instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one
         another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.

Ephesians 5

1
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children
2
and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22
Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
23
For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24
Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
26
to make her holy, cleansing[1] her by the washing with water through the word,
27
and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
28
In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29
After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church--
30
for we are members of his body.
31
"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."[2]

This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church.
33
However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
