Today, someone is proposing somewhere and giving out a ring instead of roses.
He's proposing instead of writing another romantic poem. If you've just joined the ranks of the engaged,
it's not too early to think about the details of the big day, such as wedding
favors.
Making your own favors can save you money and add a personal
touch to your wedding. You can even make two or three different kinds and let
guests choose. Shop around for inexpensive miniatures, such as fans, crocheted hats,
picture frames, papier mache
boxes, small bottles of bubbles or grapevine wreaths. With some
Tulle
,
Ribbon and fused pearls, you can make almost anything
look bridal.
Chocolaty chains.
Cut sheer, wide
ribbon into strips, and wrap three pieces of candy,
such as Kisses, in each strip. Tie pieces of delicate ribbon between each candy
piece and at each end of the chain. Fancy bookmark.
Make
a bookmark template out of card stock, and trace it onto decorative paper.
Choose vellum for an opaque, elegant look. Cut out the bookmarks with decorative
shears for scalloped edges. Look for rubber stamps of a Biblical verse and a
fancy initial, and use white pigment dye to stamp them on the white paper.
Punch a hole in the top and tie on a piece of ribbon.
Customized candies.
Buy a candy mold at the craft store in a shape that fits your theme. Melt
down some chocolate, pour it in the mold and let it harden. Package the
chocolates in little gift bags and origami boxes made from wedding paper.
Sachet.
Spread out a 9-inch tulle circle and put candy or potpourri in the center.
For a Victorian look, lay the
Tulle
on top of a 9-inch circle of lace. Gather up the sides and tie
with
Ribbon. If you fill it with birdseed, use a toilet
paper tube as a funnel.
Lacy hat.
Twist a 15-inch length of tulle into a band and wrap fused pearls around it.
Wrap the band around the crown of a small crocheted hat, and wire the ends
together close to the crown. Add some hot glue to hold it in place. Make a bow
out of satin ribbon and glue it over the wire. Turn the hat over and fill it
with candy, then glue tulle over the opening and trim the excess.
